Good morning everyone! How are you this fine Sunday?
I’m doing pretty well, I have to say, but I realized — as I was looking down at the little sticky notes I use to keep tracking of my blog events — all that I have listed are things I have cooked.
Like, that’s all lol.
I mean, things happened aside from that, but it was a fairly calm week to be honest with you all. We should probably start with the beginning of the week, Tuesday.
So long story short, last Monday two separate incidents happened near a lake in the area: the police launched a manhunt for one suspect, and there was a separate vehicular incident with police as that manhunt was going on. And because these happened on Sunday, that means it’s my job as the Monday morning anchor to tell people what happened overnight. Now that wasn’t too, too dramatic, but it was a little confusing to explain to people that the two incidents were not related to each other. They just happened to be at the same place.
But it wasn’t those things Monday night that made Tuesday a little stressful. My boss took a few days off this last week to go to some universities to recruit new employees, right? Which is fine, that just means someone will cover the midday show and we’ll all just keep the ball rolling. So myself, one of the evening anchors, and my meteorologist are all sitting down after the morning show just talking, debriefing about what happened overnight. And our boss, our news director, calls me a few times to make sure we’re doing what we can to keep on track with this overnight story, and we are. We totally are, we’re doing what we can, she’s just really passionate and she’s gone and she want to make sure we’re all doing what we’re supposed to. My job was to print off a court request (so that we could film in the court room) and then rewrite the web story (linked above), which got done fine.
It was just a morning that initially wasn’t stressful, which then became stressful or a second.
In fact, she actually went to visit my old college, my old journalism department and one of my old professors, and before she left we shot a little video on her phone of my saying, “Hey everyone! I graduated last May, this is what I do, this is what I’ve learned, etc.” And it went great, it did, it was super fun, and it was just me ad-libbing all conversational and telling them there’s hope for them. The more I thought about it, the more I really had one major thing to tell them:
Anchoring is not hard. It really isn’t. Literally, anybody can sit at a desk and read words off a teleprompter. That’s not difficult, especially if you produce the show. I mean, I get paid to do it and I had no prior anchoring experience. Now, being a good anchor? Building a persona/image, being expressive, wearing the right clothes, your reading rate/voice/pace and all that jazz? That’s what takes time and that’s what makes it difficult. That’s what makes anchoring something you have to keep practicing, you know? So I just did my best to convey that to my fellow UNC Bears in a short video of me walking around the studio.
Oh! I also ordered a red dress from Kohls online for work, which arrived, and it’s super comfy and super pretty — perfect for work. I dont have any good photos of me and the whole dress, but this is the dress I ordered and it’s lovely.
In the meantime, I’ve been texting my old college friends, sending them some cool mail — mainly encouraging letters and just cute mail — and just talking with them about their lives and struggles. I helped my coworker out by picking up a package for her when she was out of town and holding it so it shouldn’t get stolen. A viewer actually sent us a cute photo to use for a family member in our Birthday Club segment, so that was fun to use as a unique graphic; usually we aren’t sent special pictures and I had already pre-produced those birthdays, but I wanted to use it anyway since it was super cute.
Oh! I also made a margarita for cocktail hour! I hadn’t made one by myself before in my own apartment, but I did! And it was so yummy!
I also went to the AMC we have here in town for the first time to catch a matinee of “Birds Of Prey.” Personally I liked the film; I thought it was super cartoony and self-aware in a good way, I really like Margot Robbie’s Harly Quinn, it was entertaining. My only major cripe is the villain in the picture is super hammy and weird, and not in a funny way. Just in a strange, “WTF are you doing?” sort of way. But other than that, I liked the film.
Now, as far as food goes, most of what I made this week was from my “You Suck At Cooking” cookbook (based on a funny YouTube channel), and this includes:
– Guacamole
– Roasted Red Pepper Dip
– Caramelized Peaches
– Curry Chicken Thighs
– Curry Egg Salad
– Roasted Mustard String Beans
– Salt ‘n Pepper Shrimp
