That literally went from 0 to 100 reeeeeeal quick. And I’m not even joking. We’re up to 635 virus cases in Nebraska and about half a million in the U.S.
On March 19, about a month ago, Nebraska had 30 and the U.S. had about 200.
Now, it’s important to remember that as testing become more widely available then of course there are going to be more cases.
But let’s just say. . .things have escalated. Rather quickly in the grand scheme of things. I’m starting to wonder if at some point I should stop keeping track of the number of cases, but then I realize that is literally part of my job. I suppose I could stop counting here in this blog, but I think we both know I’m not going to do that. It’s just not in my nature.

Oh, one quick thing, though. The CDC and local/state officials are now saying everyone should cover their noses and mouths whenever they go outside. So I made some masks out of bandanna and I wear it at Walmart. Which honestly make me feel like I’m about the rob the place and it’s kinda funny.

So how about this — how about I just tell you about the fun things I did this week?

Well, Friday night I cooked a very lovely dinner with WF! We cooked some gnocchi with tomato garlic sauce, and then had little Ceaser salads on the side, and WF picked out a very yummy bottle of rose wine for us 🙂
I have also cooked some other stuff! But nothing exactly new. I made some grilled cheese, cinnamon bread, an omelette, some waffles.

I also bought one of the greatest things I have ever owned: a quarantine sweatshirt! I actually found it on a Buzzfeed Top Ten list or something like that, and it was being sold on Etsy. And it’s actually more Christmas-related, becasue it includes a super funny quote from Jim Carrey’s “The Grinch,” but it honestly so perfect and so fitting and I love it.
Hopefully you all do too, because this is legit my To Do List for the foreseeable future.

WF and I actually cleaned the apartment over the last week, too! And let me tell you — it is so cleansing on a personal level to have your entire living space just be so clean. It’s so organized and polished, not to mention it gives you something to do while you’re st home basically 24/7. But we did, and it is so amazing, and honestly I could not get over how clean everything was and how great it felt.
Speaking of WF, he actually helped me out with a work thing, too — KNOP needed some video of people using our news/weather apps for promo commercials, and my boss asked me if WF would like to participate (becasue it’s a little weird to have the KNOP staff look through our own apps). WF said he’s like to help out, so he was my model and I took video of him on my balcony just sitting and scrolling through the apps (from various angles, of course). So that was pretty cool; and actually a coworker of mine used that B-roll footage in a package of his recently. So WF’s hands are totes famous now, lol.

Oh! Speaking of new CDC recommendations — so now everyone needs to cover their face when they go out in public, and Gray TV is urging employees to do that do and will be sending us all cloth face masks at some point.
Well, as stated above, I jumped ahead and bought two bandannas to make masks, and it totally feels like I’m robbing places whenever I go out.

But, the reason why I need to bring that again is because of what happened on Monday. So I made the masks on Sunday, right? And I put mine in my work bag to use as a “just in case.”
So I go to work like normal and get done with the show like normal, and surprise, surprise — guess who gets to go to the Commissioner’s Meeting again on almost as short of notice as possible? I checked the assignments on that Friday and Monday morning when I got to work, and I was not slated to cover it. But I had to cover for a sick coworker again. Naturally I was frustrated about it and honestly pretty done with it all (I mean, I was tired, starving, and now had to go out in public — which is dangerous now — because audio on Zoom is horrible).
Anyway, so I finish what post-show things I need to get done for me, get the camera equipment together, take a company car back home, let WF know I’m working overtime, pee and scarf down a thick slice of Cinnamon Bread, get back into the car roughly ten minutes later, and go to the courthouse.
I put on my mask (which works but needs some getting used to), go in, and focus on an update from our local health authorities, updated on road work, and a tid-bit on early voting. Now again, at this point I’m tired, starving still, and decently annoyed, not to mention the meeting goes on for a longer time than it did before (becasue they discussed specific that normal people wouldn’t care about).
So I finish filming after the meeting and go back to the office, and honestly try to crank this stuff out as fast as I can: 2 VO SOTS, and a VO. Long story short, by the end of it all I worked about 12 hours; stuffed my face when I got home; had significantly less personal time before I had to go to sleep for work again; and was just so done with it all.

Now skip ahead to Friday — Friday is henceforth known as “Wear Red Day.” Nebraska medical centers are urging everyone to wear red each Friday from now on to show support for healthcare workers. So, to join in, each Friday we wear red in the morning show and have the background be red, too. They’re also using #WearRedBeProudNE to show support, too. So Our Friday show are going to be like that for the foreseeable future.

Oh! WF gave me a Wandering Jew plant! It’s appropriately named Audrey II and I love it, and supposedly it’s impossible to kill. Which is great, because I am certifiably terrible with plants.

WF and I also made it to about the 3rd/4th episode in the last “Mr. Robot” season, which I’m totally excited about tbh. AND we had a movie night! Last night we had drinks (I tried a gimlet for the first time and it is YUMMY), cooked a frozen pizza, and drove past the FOX Theatre in town. They were giving out freshly-popped popcorn for people to have home movie nights, so we grabbed a bag each, a candy and drink each, and then went back to watch “1917.” Neither of us had seen it before, and it’s about these soldiers in WWI; pretty good, tbh.
