Hello darkness, my old friend? How are thee?
Now before you as the reader start thinking, “Wow, it’s been awhile since there was a new post. What’s going on?” let me interject and say: yes. Yes it has.
But here we are. So let’s get into it.
Some things are changing right now with the new year, and I’m starting to realize that event though life is comfortable and routine, it won’t always stay that way. Things change because they have to.
A dear coworker is leaving my office to return to the East Coast. And even I myself just has an interview the other day for a content creation job back in Colorado. Even if that doesn’t work out, I’m still actively looking and applying. But it all didn’t really hit me until later — I could be leaving Nebraska in the next few weeks after about 18 months. As much as I love my coworkers, we can’t all stay together — we’ll grow and move on with our careers.
To be honest, the thought saddens me. But hey, that’s the way it works. Besides, there’s nothing stopping me from keeping in contact with them after I move along.
And now that I’ve illuminated you about my current goings-on, I suppose now is as good a time as any to catch-up. Obviously you must’ve seen my latest Netflix ‘n Swill episode (which I’d totally want to continue in a new town, if I remember), but I am with company so I’m not sure when the next one will come out. The holidays came and went, and I ate all the peppermint and holiday-flavored goodies; wonderful (distanced) time with family and friends; a hopeful goodbye to 2020 — only to be greeted by a certified shit storm within the first week. Sadly I could not cancel my free trial of 2021 and have to continue. Then again, it’s only January — as we know how fast things can change within just one year. I’m sure months from now we’ll be looking back and saying, “Man, remember how bad things were in January? Crazy. Now things are so much better/worse.”
Rest assured even though I have not updated this blog in a few months (though it’s much more dramatic to say “quarter of a year”), I’ve been living my best life, especially in the last two weeks. I did jump on the New Year’s Resolutions bandwagon but with an important distinction: baby steps. I do have a list, yes, but I’m making it a point to work on each of them in baby steps — an all-or-nothing approach will just result in me quitting. Most are going well so far (maintaining health, putting money into savings), while others are not (daily meditation). But again — baby steps.
And now, I’m just chugging along, you know? Working on my skills, updating my resume, keeping on with the cooking; I found a new YouTube channel called the Babish Culinary Universe that I’ve really been getting into. They recently made a new series called “Stump Sohla” where this amazing chef (Sohla) tackles a bunch of creative cooking challenges. It’s super fun to watch and Sohla herself is the greatest; so fun and bubbly and personable.
But aside from that, like I said – just chugging along. My time in Nebraska has certainly been an adventure — I mean, it’s the first time I lived my life on my own — and I’m excited for what’s next.
A toast to a bright future and a less terrible 2021!
