Well, as luck would have it, it is indeed January. Which means I must suffer through more winter before we can finally get to spring! The weather really proved that this week, as a major snow storm pummeled it’s was across Nebraska. Now, the western side of the state faired okay; and we in the central region did alright too (only 4-5 inches total); but the eastern side got as much as 15 inches over about two days or so. I’m talking, fingers-turning red-and-numb sort of cold, with enough snow that people made sculptures of dogs, dinosaurs and serpents. Actually, school was cancelled in town for about two days becasue of the snow. This was mainly due to the amount expected over a longer period of time; it also made my very jealous because I fondly remember the days of Snow Days! Ahh, to be a student and putting a metal spoon under your pillow so the distract would call a Snow Day…
So, naturally our state patrol had their hands full the past few days with dangerous, icy, snowy road conditions. However, I think it’s going to get better in the next few days — still chilly weather, but less snow.
So that’s the major news for the week. I was actually really surprised our local classes were cancelled — several districts cancelled classes in our region. Like I said, it wasn’t a crazy amount of snow, but I bet it was just out of caution. Speaking of cold, I don’t think the heat at my office works very well. I always turn it up when I come in (so I don’t freeze to death) but I still have to sit by a window, and still get very cold. The thermostat says it’s at 75, but it sure does not feel like it!
Oh, I finally managed to spend some time with my c0workers last Friday; we met up and talked for the first time in weeks over a beer or two. Plus I got to dress in my pretty street clothes as opposed to work clothes/lounge clothes. I also filled them in on some recent office drama (I’m not usually a part of drama, so this was actually pretty unique). While I do have screenshots, to give you a short recap: I offered basic script critiques, coworker (who spelled my name wrong) attempted to offer advice though he contributed to the script mistake, boss commented I went about offering critiques in the wrong way. Note: I didn’t call anyone out specifically and offered it as a general reminder to everyone. Honestly, I’m just trying to actively practice Rule Number One of Journalism: use active voice.
That was also the evening I finally took our professional messaging app off my phone; I still have it on my laptop for emergencies, but I don’t need a notification going off on my laptop and phone at the same time!
In other news, I’m getting ready for Valentine’s Day! I’m really excited for it this year, even though I may have to celebrate the weekend after the holiday itself (it’s on a Sunday, so I’d have to go to bed early for work). I also can’t believe we’re almost to February now — I remember where we were at time time last year and February-March is where is all started to really go down-hill. Maybe it’ll be better this time!
Personal update: I’ve recently tried oat milk for the first time. Chobani Vanilla Oat Milk is by far the best milk I have ever tasted; it’s like drinking a vanilla milkshake that’s good for you. It’s good by itself, in coffee, in overnight oats — I am not going back to normal milk! WF and I looked around in town for a place that has this brand of oat milk but couldn’t find it — luckily we found other oat milk that will do!
To be continued, I suppose!
