I have a problem with lipsticks. Namely, I own too many. For the past year or two, I’ve mainly had a problem with seeing new pretty eyeshadow palettes and wanting to buy them; but I told myself that I don’t need all the pretty color combinations and that’s been working well so far. But I’m in the process of rediscovering my love for lip products and even after throwing away some that weren’t good anymore, I still have a lot. So maybe it’s time for me to start my own Project Pan.

This is My Foray into Beauty YouTube

“Project Pan,” at least in the Beauty YouTube context, means you specifically make it a point to use up a certain project until you either “hit pan” (meaning you can see the metal of the packaging underneath) or totally use it up. It is a term that’s newer to me, but as far as I can tell it’s all about using the makeup you have rather than buying new products to the point where you just have too much. It’s all about getting the most out of what you have. And that is what I want to do at least with my lipsticks.

My Long Lost Love

When I was in college, I went through a very big lipstick phase. I wore makeup most days and really got into different lipstick colors and just wearing lip products in general; it was my favorite part of getting ready. At that time of my life, I was single — which means I basically didn’t have to worry about being kissed or about my lip color getting all messed up. I wore any color I wanted whenever I could (mainly reds, pinks, and peaches with some darker dramatic colors). Red even today is probably one of my favorite lip colors; I adore the way it looks and it just boosts my confidence by 200 percent.

Fast forward to today and I’m once again really interested in lip products. I took a break when I first started my career (you can only wear certain lip colors on camera in the news industry) but now I have to stop myself from buying all the makeup. I really need to use what I have, which got me thinking about starting a Project Pan at least for this area of my makeup. I think I can stop myself from buying more eyeshadows for now but that would have to be next.

How this Project Pan Would Work

Unfortunately, I can only really use one lip product per day. I personally don’t bother with lip liner and very rarely do I put on a lip stain and then go over it with a gloss. It’s usually either one color — whether it be a stick, stain, gloss, or oil — and that’s it. It would take some time for sure, but this Project Pan would just be about wearing some sort of lip product whenever I can. I fear too many of the colors I have are just sitting there and gathering dust and I don’t want that.

I think what I may do is take a couple of products I like a lot and focus on those. I can already think of a few that I can probably make the most of right away and even wear on days when I don’t wear makeup. We’ll check back in later and see!
