I don’t recall ever actually seeing the Golden Turmeric Latte on any Starbucks menu. I wouldn’t call myself an expert by any means, but I don’t think this is a staple menu item and could maybe just be something in the At Home Starbucks recipe catalog. Regardless, I tried making this drink twice — but I want to to tell you about my Test #2 that was quite successful.

Making the Golden Turmeric Latte

The instructions to make the Golden Turmeric Latte are simple enough: mix the add-ins into the espresso and top with foamed milk. But I don’t have a functional espresso machine at the moment and had to improvise. I boiled water as you would for tea and mixed it with instant espresso powder to create the coffee base. I poured exactly eight ounces of my Chobani oatmilk into a little cup and frothed it with my little milk frother until it was a consistency I liked; I don’t think there is a set amount of time for this, it’s really just based on eye-balling and personal taste.

But here is where my method really differs from the official instructions. During my Test #1 attempt, I used the exact measurements for ginger and turmeric and found it to be quite gritty and not well mixed in. That’s why for Test #2, I altered it: ¼ teaspoon ground ginger and ⅛ teaspoon turmeric. I ditched the vanilla, cinnamon, and black pepper entirely in favor of keeping the flavor of the two namesake ingredients.

Mixing in these ingredients into the espresso coffee, I topped with the oatmilk (note to self: heat up milk before you froth it) and gave it a taste test.

I Love This Coffee Idea

I think the flavors of ginger and turmeric work very well together and I think they worked in the coffee drink. I quite liked this latte and will have to make it again with warmer milk and maybe more espresso. The altered measurements I think worked well and still had the f;avors without being gritty. It probably would taste better with vanilla and cinnamon — maybe I can try that in a future attempt. I enjoy this phase of getting more into coffee and hope I find more combinations.
