So lately I’ve been trying new things — I’ve bought twice now from a new indie coffee brand called Sips and I’ve got a few new ways to integrate more protein into my daily diet (high-protein yogurt, plain Greek yogurt with dip mix and baby carrots, protein powder in my Overnight Chia Seed Pudding). But outside of those, I’ve recently found a new snack that gives me the salty crisp of potato chips without being absolutely terrible for you.

Let Me Introduce You to Harvest Snaps

A stint of housesitting about two weeks ago introduced me to the Harvest Snaps Baked Green Pea Snacks, both Lightly Salted and Tomato Basil. These are exactly what they look like on the packaging — small, green bean-like snacks that are crispy, crunchy, and come in different flavors. I’m not going to act like these are the healthiest snacks in the world (they are still processed and have a good amount of salt), but I think their taste, ingredients, and protein level make up for it. I’d be happy to take these over traditional potato chips any day.

Taste-Testing Lightly Salted & Tomato Basil

Both variations of the Harvest Snaps Baked Green Pea Snacks can be good sources of protein, with the Lightly Salted flavor and the Tomato Basil having five grams (per serving) each. The original flavor gives you the subtle vegetable flavor, but the texture and saltiness still give the same mouth-feel as other snacks; this is what makes them the perfect substitute for Ruffles or something else along those lines. The Tomato Basil version still has the same texture, but the saltiness is cut with the classic Caprese salad combination that tastes like grilled cheese favorite soup. It’s zesty, tangy, refreshing, offers a slightly different flavor, and is still gluten-free and packed with protein.

Get More Veggies Into Your Diet

I’m at a place where I’m trying to not only add more protein to my diet, but more vegetables as well. This goes hand-in-hand with my goals for the last quarter of 2024. These snacks I think are the perfect way to trick yourself into getting more vegetables without depriving yourself of flavor or texture. Each serving is made with green peas, red lentils, other vegetables, seasoning, and oil, and reminds me of swapping traditional frying with air frying. True it may not be the healthiest way to cook or eat, it’s better — and as I’ve said before here on my blog, it’s all about making small changes that have a larger positive impact.

I highly recommend checking out Harvest Snaps and seeing if they scratch that itch for you. After all, nobody needs to be downing handfuls of Sour Cream & Onion Ruffles.
