Good afternoon everyone 🙂 How are you this fine Sunday?
I have to tell you, the weather has been crazy lately. . .I mean, we’re talking not a lot of snow accumulation, but still some icy roads, road closures, blizzard conditions, 60-70mph winds — like damn the weather’s been crazy lately.
So that started early last week, right? Naturally we’re news people and so we spend a lot of time talking about the weather. So last week we had a Weather Alert day for Winter Storms and while around here we didn’t have a lot of snow accumulation, it was VERY cold and the roads were VERY icy. Not a lot of road closures initially, but there were reports of about 3 overturned car accidents within the span of a few miles on I-80 and we’re telling everyone “Stay Inside! Do Not Drive!” Anyway, so that happened, and it was still really cold, and there were reports of people losing power (even some of my coworkers) and about two days ago we started to get blizzard conditions. Again, not a lot of snow exactly, but high winds and blizzard conditions. So basically, last night, roads looked like dis:

Closures EVERYWHERE. It looks better today, as in the sun is out and it looks less cold, but weather has been crazy lately. In my show on Friday I was telling people what to do if they lose power. So that’s whats been dominating everything around here the past week or so.

The of course, there’s Thanksgiving. Now, one thing to know about me is I thoroughly dislike driving in winter weather and it makes me extraordinarily uncomfortable and nervous. I will avoid it whenever possible. So instead of seeing family this Thanksgiving in other states, I opted to stay around here (the icy roads and accidents were making me nervous, and then the weather report called for freezing rain and blizzard conditions). I was sad I couldn’t see my family, but I’m also glad in hindsight that I didn’t make the 3+ hour drive.
So, what did I do for the holiday? Well, first I got my Weekend Friend to the airport (early! So he made his flight this time!) and bid him goodbye, and then came home to chill. Now on the actual holiday, I first made a little trip to WalMart. Several my my college friends are still in college, and thus are going into Dead Week and Finals Week; so I thought it woud be nice to send then all Finals Care Packages to help them get through it! My mom used to send me these and I thought they’d enjoy them!
I went out and bought shipping boxes and various supplies (chapstick, gum, pens, chocolate, trail mix, protein bars, fruit snacks, etc.) and put them all together with a greeting card (saying “good luck!” basically) with a Starbucks gift card inside. They’re all sent off now and should arrive on Tuesday!

Anyway, so for Thanksgiving dinner I treated myself before I had to go to work. I watched all the (good) Thanksgiving episodes of “Friends,” I had cocktail hour with a gin & tonic, cheese-and-almond-filled dates and kale chips; I made myself pizza margarita (tomatoes, mozzarella, basil) and had chocolate mousse for dessert. Then I had a very nice nap before work! 🙂 Work was also very nice, very smooth, very nice. I actually felt bad for my coworker-reporter who had to cover Black Friday in the snow while our meteorologist and I were inside in the warm doing the morning show — we all had a good giggle about it Twitter during the commercial breaks 🙂

Oh! I also got stuff in the mail! I ordered printer paper and it was was finally delivered (so I could answer my Weekend Friend’s letter), I ordered some more Victoria’s Secret underwear for their Black Friday Sale which should arrive next week, my Weekend Friend ordered me jewelry that should arrive tomorrow, I started ordering Christmas gifts that should arrive this next week as well…

Oh! The other day I treated myself with some seared steak, mushrooms and roasted cauliflower (VERY good) and I went out with my coworkers! We went to Pals Brewing Company (where I took my Weekend Friend a few days ago) to check out this band that was playing there. I was literally so hyped for this — I mean, I got to dress up, look hot, feel like a woman, got to drink because someone else graciously volunteered to drive. It felt so good, ans their Strawberry Fields beer was so good, so were the Baked Cheese Curds and nachoes; I got to spend some quality time with my coworkers outside of work. I loved that…it’s hard to do that with my current schedule, but I loved being able to pregame before and go there and have fun!
Plus I got to know our new coworker-reporter who covered Black Friday a little better; she’s the newbie now like I was and she’s honestly really cool. I so glad I got to know her better, and I hope I get to more after last night.

Anyway, it is in fact December now, so now I get to blast Christmas music and watch Christmas movies! I watch “White Christmas” every year so I’m just going to have that on repeat 🙂
Oh, and this coming week my schedule is a little off — I have Friday off and instead will produce/anchor the 6 and 10 shows on Saturday while a coworker takes PTO. I’m a little nervous, just because I’m sure its slightly different than producing/anchoring the morning show, but at the same time it’s just reading things off a teleprompter. Ya know — same principles, different time of day. Though I do hope I’m given a few tips/Need-to-Know info before Saturday lol.
Oh! And it looks like my family will be going to Vegas in January; luckily I should have enough PTO by then and have already requested those days off. I really hope this works out — I loved Vegas when I was there this past spring.

But anyway, that’s all for now. I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday 🙂
