Good afternoon everyone! How are you today?
Me, I’m doing alright. Audrey II is sitting very nicely in the run at the moment. He’s all perked up after being in cloudy weather for the past few days.
Now, it’s been a hot minute since I last posted, time just got away from me, so I suppose I should start at the beginning of the list with a brand new discovery:
I have allergies.
I’ve never had a problem with allergies, never bothered me at all.
But then I moved to Nebraska.
And I have them now.
WTF.
It was a bit scary, too — I had an usual amount of post-nasal drip and I kept trying to fix it with Mucinex and I was thinking, “Oh god, am I getting sick?” And now really isn’t the best time to be worried about something like that. But I started taking Claritin and it cleared right up within a few days.
But the point is, I have allergies now. And now I know why everyone else hates them.
I also had an interview via Zoom! First time, too. The town had its annual day of donating to various non-profits and I did an interview to promote it. My boss initially set it as an in-person interview before handing the story off to me, which made no sense to me.
Seeing as, ya know, purposefully being in close quarters with others during a pandemic really isn’t the best idea; not to mention it probably violates company guidelines.
Anyway, so I scheduled an interview via Zoom (got misself some overtime) and it went great. Also please note when I called about scheduling, I kept repeating “This will be via Zoom so we can social distance.”
Well, here’s the thing — as well as that went, and as well as that morning show went, we get a call to the studio around 6:30 a.m. that morning. And it’s my interviewee. There at the studio. Waiting for the supposed in-person, on-cam interview.
Turns out, my boss (even thought I told her it would be via Zoom) must’ve told Interviewee to come to the studio before handing the story off to me. Needless to say I was mortified at the misunderstanding and send an overly-apologetic email afterwards. But by god was I mad — at my boss for telling this poor guy to come to the studio at 6:30 a.m., and at me for never directly saying “zoom replaces in-person.” But to be fair, once I got the story, I didn’t know there was previous contact.
Next thing — I’m trying to program a Hangman game in Python in my free time. I’ve actually been working on it off and on for awhile now; part of it is working brain muscles that haven’t been worked in awhile, and part of it is the frustration that just comes with programming. I’m on my second major attempt now, and I think I’ve come up with a solution to a problem I keep running into. Hopefully. We’ll see.
For the last two #TakeoutTuesdays, I’ve been back to The Good Life (jalapeno sausage, andouille sausage, coleslaw and mac & cheese), and then to Pal’s Brewing Company for their pizza and cheese curds.
Oh! Going back to work — this one day last week, the teleprompter was on the fritz. Normally the teleprompter is white text on a black background, becasue it’s easier to read that way. But on this particular day, it was tuck on white text on a white background. Now, obviously this isn’t ideal, becasue I couldn’t read it as well and I had to rely more on my tablet. Plus it really hurt my eyes. But it’s okay, it all worked out.
I ordered Mike’s Hot Honey on Amazon! It’s chili-infused honey, and it is the greatest thing that has ever been invested.
My coworker got a cat! He is absolutely adorable — his name is Tito — and he is a really light-golden catto. Little skittish when first meeting new people, but he warms up to them eventually!
I sent WF a care package! He’s a really big fan of Stroopwafels cookies and I happened to see some boxes in Walmart the other day. So I bought him a box and baked up some chocolate chip cookies to fill out the rest of the care package. It actually arrived yesterday and naturally he loved it.
I’m trying intermittent fasting. Basically it condenses the time frame in which I eat and it’s taking a bit of time to get used to. But I won’t know for sure until a few more days pass, I suspect.
Oh! This past Tuesday was the strangest day — so ya know how on Tuesdays my meteorologist and I have our quiet directors? The ones that aren’t talkative and that yelled at me a few weeks back? We finally got them to talk! No kidding, once the conversation (for some reason) turned to nostalgic music, like, late ’90s, early 2000 music, then we really got them to talking. They said more words to us in that one day then they have in the 7 months I;ve been doing the morning show.
And finally — some rather big news — my boss is leaving. My boss, who had had the same job in the same town for a number of years, is taking another job (in the same company) in Mississippi. And coincidentally, the same day I got this message in a virtual team meeting was the same day I talked to my family about whether to renew my lease or not.
So basically — I’m thinking about my future. I mean, do I renew my lease and continue through my contract until it’s over? Or do I look for another job? I think I’ll have to see how these next few weeks go, But I’ve got a lot of thinking to do about my future…. I like it here in town; I’ve gotten used to it; I’ve affordable to live here; but I don’t know what will happen next.
And here we are at the point where I show you what I have cooked, which are (in order): Lemon Scones, Cinnamon Bread, Eggs Benedict, Salt ‘N Pepper Shrimp and Roasted Brussels Sprouts.
