Good afternoon everyone! How are you?
I know I haven’t updates y’all in awhile (hence the title) but I’m back here today to tell you about what’s been going on in my life! So let’s see if we can run this down in a reasonable time frame. . .
• First off — I got a new haircut! That was on October 10th. I made an appointment with Studio 54, a salon downtown, and I went on a day that was really windy and cold. So I did a live video on my professional page to let them know what I was doing and to have a “before” hair, and then I went inside. Basically I got my hair cut into a bob cut, which means my stylist took off about 4 inches or so of hair; well, she straightened it first to make it easier to cut, and then she trimmed it.
The result. . .I LOVE IT. If you know me then you know I’ve always wanted long hair — like Disney Princess hair — but I have since given up on that dream. My boss and I are working on my on-camera image and we found the best hairstyles for my face shape (hence the bob cut). It was funny washing my hair after that because I was like “where did all my hair go?” but I love this new style and length; I feel like I have an actual style now. It’s super easy to maintain, when I straighten my hair for work (everyday, fyi) it’s really easy, my friends and family all love it. . .I am even now still in love with my hair.
Anyway so that haircut was a Studio 54 here in town (and was a nice gift from my company) and afterwards I grabbed myself a nice little coffee from the espresso shop before going home. And now I’ve invested in some great haircare products and I’m trying out a new straightener to see if it works better than the one I’ve been using for years.
In fact, it’s kind of funny — in college beauty expenses and clothes expenses were for fun, and now they’re necessary for my work; so I just call them work expenses now!
• So as you know I’m working the night shift, so two weekends ago (October 12) on Saturday I was reporting again — I got to cover Dusty’s Pumpkin Fest and a Haunted Trail.
So Dusty’s is a weekend pumpkin patch at the historical Buffalo Bill property on the north side of town that has a ton of things for families: horseback and hay rides, snacks, a little fire pit, a petting zoo, rubber duck races on the creek. I had a good time but was struggling a bit because my tripod would not cooperate with me. . .it kept breaking and being difficult. . . but on the bright side, I was done in time to get a nice little VO/SOT done before heading to the Haunted Trail. That was hosted by the community college softball team out in the Middle of Nowhere (south of Brady, NE) where I couldn’t get service on my phone. Not to mention it was dark and I could only film so much because it’s getting to be fall/winter and it gets dark so early. . .I left with good footage and all, but I also left with my hair and clothes smelling like campfire smoke. Good time, though.
• Let’s see. . .so the last time I talked to you all, I had just spent the weekend with a close friend of mine. Well, I’ve been up to quite a few things since then!
First off, I made more scones! I made chocolate chip scones using a little tub of vanilla Greek yogurt and 2 packages of Martha White Chocolate Chip Muffin Mix, and they were so good! Ahh, I cannot describe to you how much I love baking and cooking. . .anyway that was on October 13th. I also made myself a nice big meal of gnocchi with homemade garlic butter sauce paired with seared steak with browned mushrooms, but I don’t remember what day that was. I was very fancy that day!
• Alright, now here is where we get to the cringy part of the week. . . .so I went to work the morning show on October 15, right? Now after that shift I went home to change and then go back tot he office to meet my new coworker Kaylie and to watch the midday show. So by the time that is over it’s around noon, right? Now October 15 is National Cheese Curd Day (we had a segment on it for the morning show) and I hadn’t eaten yet so I thought I’d go to Sonic and get some mozzarella sticks and treat my self.
So I drive over there, I go through the drive thru, and I get the goods as well as a burger because, again, I was hungry and I hadn’t eaten. So I get to the window to pay and this lovely woman walks out (cuz the line is long) and has my pay. So I hand her my debit card. . . .which she took, walked off, came back after a minute or two and said was declined. So I was like “Okay, fine” and I had them another card. . .which was also declined.
So I’m in the drive thru right now, and both my cards are declined (must’ve just been a problem with their machines because my card(s) worked elsewhere). . . .so my heart is sinking right now and I’m just mortified. So I tell them I’ll pull off to the side and see if I have enough cash to cover it. Again, I’m incredibly embarrassed at this point because I knew I only had some cash left and a shit ton of loose change, right?
So I pull off into one of the drive-in spots and open my wallet and start counting a ridiculous amount of coins, because I only have about $5 in cash and the bill was around $11 or $12. Now, I have good news and I have bad news:
The good news is I had enough money in my wallet to cover the cost. So I pull back around the drive thru and explain that I pulled off and that I have enough cash/change, and then the same lovely woman comes out to my car window.
The bad news? This poor Sonic employee — this poor, poor woman — had to stand there and watch me count out about $6 in change. And not just quarters, I’m talking dimes and pennies, too. I was incredibly mortified, I felt so horrible, and I was just apologizing profusely and oh my god I cant never show my face around there again, I swear. . . .but I got it paid for, the woman was super nice about it, and I think to myself “well that’ll make a good story.” But the lesson? ALWAYS CARRY ENOUGH CASH WITH YOU. That was you don’t end up paying for a Green Chile Burger and mozzarella sticks with fucking loose change. . .
But the food was very delicious and I loved it, and I wold just want that employee to know I am So. Fucking. Sorry. . . .probably made her day though with how awkward and funny it was.
• Let’s see. . .what else. . . .my weight was bad for about a week there (I think I overate and overdrank when my friend came to visit) but I think I’m back on track now. I’m down from last time I weighed so we’ll try to keep that consistent! It is consistent for the most part, haven’t had a lot of fluctuation, but I still want to keep on track.
• Now, October 17 through the 18th — I was working the night shift, right? So I go in super early the morning of the 18th. . .well, two reporters of ours are out on the road about 20 minutes east of town to cover this breaking news about a semi rollover. The semi was carrying cattle and so the state patrol and volunteer fire department was having a hell of a time wrangling all the cattle. . .but anyway so that breaking news I put at the top of my show and I was super happy to have that in my show. Info was great, video was great, and it was a really unique story to happen around 1 a.m. – 2 a.m. on a Friday morning. . . .anyway here’s the story if you’re really curious.
• Now, moving on to the next days, this past weekend (October 19, 20) I went to Greeley to visit some college friends of mine. I left Friday afternoon after work and drove to my grandparents’ house, where I was staying, and then I spent the day with my grandma. She’s the sweetest — I love her, I love seeing her, and she purposefully wakes up early every morning to watch me anchor the morning show. . .anyway, so I went shopping with her and got myself some new anchor clothes and my new hair straightener I’m going to try out.
Now Saturday I met with my friend Kathryn from college. We had coffee at a coffeeshop near my old college, “The Blue Mug,” and then went shopping at Target where I got some lovely housewares: hand towels, a wooden cheese plate, cheese plate cutters, a recipe book and some greeting cards to mail to my friends. From there we did an asylum-themed escape room just the two of us — the last time we did one, there were about six of us and it took about 35 minutes for us to solve; with the two of us, we made it out with one minute to spare. So not the best time, but it was really fun!
Then we grabbed dinner at a Wing Shack where I got myself some yummy 10 count hot wings and a nice side of crinkle cut fries dipped excessively in ranch, and then met up with our mutual friend Griffin at “The Nerd Store,” to hang out and play some board games until closing times.
Ahh. . . .it was amazing and I loved seeing them again. I want to see them all again plus the two that couldn’t join us, but I’m busy this weekend and can’t drive down. . . .maybe another time!
• Also, see Halloween costume for this year, bought for a great price via Amazon:
Anyway, that’s. . . .everything for a little bit! Again, I’m sorry for updating you so late but I’m doing it now! Thank y’all for reading and we’ll see you next time!
