My main month-long goal for January 2025 is cleaning up and better organizing my living space. A little bit at a time, I am working on decluttering; going through all my belongings; moving things into storage; and giving away or throwing out items I don’t need. I’ve gone through a little desk space and two bathroom drawers so far, one of which is my makeup storage drawer. It is here that I’ve basically just finished my first (un)official Makeup Declutter.

Purging Makeup I Don’t Use & Don’t Need

So apparently a common thing to do in the Beauty YouTube space is to declutter makeup and other beauty products every so often (especially at the end of a year). Similar to going through old clothing, the idea with this is to get rid of any products that are old; broken; used up; not wanted; or just not needed or liked in order to make room for more preferred makeup products. I actually didn’t plan on doing my own Makeup Declutter, but since I had to go through my makeup drawer anyway, I thought it would be great to really go through my little collection to see what I can let go of.

I think it’s natural for all of us to have things we naturally gravitate toward and use or wear all the time; like a certain piece of clothing, a certain lipstick, a certain water bottle. So with that in mind, I’ve narrowed down my makeup collection categories to only include products that I know I’ll use on a regular basis (primers, blushes, highlighters, etc.).

My Makeup Declutter Products

Since this is my first (un)official decluttering of makeup, I figured I might as well let you know what it is I’m getting rid of! It feels a little unceremonious but I still want to document this. I really want to focus on using up what I really like and waiting until I use up a certain product before I go and purchase another one. So in the spirit of have a better handle on my space and what I own, here is everything in this makeup declutter (and why):

  • ColourPop Super Shock Shadow, “Ur My Sunshine”: This was mistakenly given to me as part of an old makeup order when I had originally asked for another shade. It’s very neon and just not for me; I never wear it.
  • ColourPop Ballad Pressed Powder Palette: This I had bought for the cool-toned blues and greys, since I didn’t have any in my collection at the time, but this has been replaced by the NOMAD Ghost Town USA Palette.
  • Revolution x The Grinch Eyeshadow Palette: A 2021 or 2022 Christmas advent calendar addition that was cute at the time but I never wear and don’t like the color scheme of.
  • dome BEAUTY Pressed Powder Blush, “English Rose”: I’m pretty sure this is an old Ipsy bag addition that I never wear and I like the other blushes I have much better.
  • Revolution x The Grinch Highlighter: Same reason; I never wear it and like my other highlighters a lot better.
  • Revolution x The Grinch Lipstick: This is too bright of a warm-toned red when swatched on my hand. I really like red lipstick, but I tend to like darker ones better and already have my favorite.
  • TETRIS™ x Ipsy Lipgloss, “Tetrimino”: Another Ipsy bag product I’ve kept for many years, but I have a similar Anastasia Beverly Hills nude lip gloss that has a better color.
  • Maybelline New York Super Star Matte Ink Lique Lipstick, “Pathfinder”: Love me some liquid lipstick, but this was a hand-me-down that I initially liked but can now see is way too bright of a pink for me. This shade would look so much better on someone else!
  • Maybelline New York Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara: Totally empty and used up, and now replaced by the Tower 28 MakeWaves® Mascara.
  • AVIERLL Double Eyeliner Pencil (x2): Bought two of these when I was in desperate need of some eyeliner, but I like the Pat McGrath Labs ones better and just got another Sephora one for Christmas.

Total Decluttered: 11

Moving Forward With My Makeup Collection

Getting rid of all those feels good! I’m happy with what I have left in my collection and I’m glad to have made room for new makeup products if I find some I really want or need. Here’s to another successful step in my winter cleaning/organization project and here’s to having a better look at what products I have and want to use!
