Good day everyone! How are you?
So this was actually typed on Saturday, Dec. 28 but I didnt have my laptop so I couldnt post like normal:
So first I must apologize for this post being late as I was being hosting Weekend Friend and everything sort of got away from me. But here we are anyway!
Also, before we begin:
Hello, Family. I was told you all found this and knowing you, you will no doubt make jokes about it for awhile. But hey — I live my life, you live yours. Maybe call once in awhile, though.
Now that that’s out of the way theres only a small amount of news to report on; to make it easier we’ll work backwards.
My family Christmas celebration was this past week! I drove down to Colorado twice within the span of about four days — first for the latter part of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for a nice family meal. Well, mostly nice. Due to timing complications (*cough* RYAN *cough*) it was very much a scarf down food and then book it back to Nebraska to sleep for work. Not a super fun drive back — kinda emotional. But I dont wanna get into that.
Cut to going to work again; pretty normal day. The 27th however was quite the doozy: I wake up like normal and go to work, but this was another WAD (Weather Alert Day) for Heavy Snow. A rather large storm is passing through Colorado and Nebraska and the Panhandle got hit really hard; last I checked the roads they were still completely covered in snow, blowing with low visibility, NDOT and the state patrol keeping people off the roads as best they can, helping out accidents.
So anyway we issued a WAD, which is special graphics and longer weather segments that basically say “Heavy Snow Warning” and all. That was for all day, I believe. This made my job a bit easier as I needed less content, but harder because I shot video of the I-80 interchange TWICE (once at night, once in the morning for the Midday Show) and I was late getting the show ready. But I got through it — I was tired and hungry and didnt want to stay late that day (though I had to) but I got through it.
Why did I have to stay late? I covered the Midday Show for my boss while she was out; it was basically for an emergency. This meant I worked my normal 1am to about 8:30am, and then again from 9:30am to about 12:30pm, give or take. Now lucky for me, my boss pre-produced a good portion of the show, which is only 30min long and had four commercial breaks. Not to mention the WAD extended through the day, so weather took up a good amount of the show, too. The only particularly difficult part was that the midday show has an interview portion called “Newsmakers,” which is about 2 minutes, 30 seconds; Lucky for me, our guest for that day was quite talkative.
It all honestly went fine — And I was able to grab a little food before coming into work again — but I was tired and ready to drive back to Colo by then. I could totally do the Midday again if I had to, though. Very straight-forward.
Anyway, so later on the 27th I drove back to Colo (and following the advice of our meteorologist, I left earlier than anticipated so I could be the winter weather) for Family Christmas Part 2, which was a nice meal and games and such. AND I could actually sit and enjoy it! Well except for the traditional Teasing of Erika.
Tomorrow I drive back to Nebraska for work — the storm should pass by then.
Oh! My visit with Weekend Friend was great! He really liked his Christmas presents, even though I had to ship them to him because they wouldnt fit in his suitcase. Always good to see him; One of these days I’m going to look through what PTO I have to see if I can visit him soon.
And cooking! I did more cooking! I peeled and grated some potatoes to make hashbrowns in the oven, mixed with some butter and chives. I made them a few times — they were on the Tasty app I downloaded — and I love them! Weekend Friend loved them too!
I also made a chocolate muffin in a mug, which turned out very well; baked potato wedges tossed in rosemary and olive oil, dipped in buffalo sauce; chicken with broccoli and rice. I really want to cook more but I desperately need to stop by the grocery store — Im running so low on food it isnt even funny. Theres so much I want to cook and so little time!
Well, I suppose that’s all the important stuff right now. Goodbye, Family.
