I actually have a very minimal makeup collection. When I say minimal, I mean it all basically fits in one little carrying container that was gifted to me and I used back in my news anchor days; it’s a little white zipper cube-shaped bag decorated with pink flamingos and vertical black lines. The only things that don’t fit are my lip products, which I store in two repurposed white ceramic candle jars. But really — how many lip products does one woman need?

I Need to Use These Lippies Up

In total, I have 20. That includes lipsticks, matte lips, lip stains, a gloss, my newest So Juicy Plumping Gloss Balm With Peptides and Lux Lip Oil, and more. Now, if I wore all of them, then that wouldn’t be a problem, right? But I don’t. I seem to gravitate toward the same main products (excluding my two new ones) over and over — mainly, I think, because of their colors and applicability. Pulling a new of my ColourPop lippies, I know I wear them often because the color looks pretty, can go with several different casual outfits, or can be worn even when I’m not wearing other makeup.

They’re not the oldest lippies I own, or even the newest, but the ones I am always reaching for. And I think that is the perfect first step toward creating and working on a Project Pan.

My Project Pan Products

I truly think the best way to get some of these products used up — without straight out decluttering them and throwing them out — is to put them in my first Project Pan. I’ve pulled a few that I think I can confidently use frequently and make some serious dents in alongside using my other. These include:

All these lip products are older, minus the lip oil (but that one I enjoy way too much and know I will happily use up no problem). A few of them have been visibly used, but I really enjoy these shades and want to make it a point to use them whenever I can. The lippie stix I know I can wear when doing my makeup but the lip oil and gloss I can wear even with a bare face.

The Project Pan Details

At the time of writing this, it is early to mid June 2024 — halfway through the year. By December, I want to see how much of these products I’ve been able to use up and then call this project either a success or failure. My plan is to check-in on these products in September to see how I’m doing and see if I’m on track to use these up before we reach 2025. Each of these can easily fit in my purse and I know I can confidently wear them throughout the week without needing a “special occasion.” I’m not exactly the “going out” kind of gal but these lips are casual and not very bold — perfect for everyday use.

Keep An Eye Out in September

By September at the very latest, expect an update from me on how this Project Pan is going. I know it’s very hard for me to avoid buying lip products but I hope this will help me avoid the temptation and focus on using these up before I start adding to my collection. Besides, it’s not like makeup is going to suddenly disappear. Let’s get this things started and I’ll check back in in a few months!
